The Virus, and Other Reasons to Burn Your House Down

January 31, 2018

When I said I had taken off work Friday because Harrison had the virus... I'm still off work. I'm not even entirely sure what day it is anymore.

The other kids at the sitter either had this for a hot minute, got the throw up side and later developed the diarrhea situation... but Harrison. Oh Harrison. He had to out do them all. He has had both for 6 days. Is it 6?

I can't even count anymore.

He started this mess Friday and it's now Wednesday. I'm assuming it's Wednesday at least.

Meal Pinning Monday

January 30, 2018

I'm a little late getting this up, but out of fear for forgetting what I planned to cook this week I had to get after it.

By the way if you've followed along with our stomach virus drama on Instagram... we tested H yesterday and it's definitely just the virus. I was so scared they'd say it was that N3 strain of the flu because of how it progressed Sunday.

Then even better than that, after throwing up like crazy Sunday night, he woke up today asking to eat and watch Turtles. Thank you Jesus!

Also, as far as Meal Planning is going on the blog... until Pinterest gets their act together I won't be posting their widgets for recipes. I'll still link to Pinterest, but they've made using their html codes a pain in the butt.

So this week the menu is...

Monday - Breakfast Taquitos (I used a low carb wrap for mine)
Tuesday - Grilled Chicken with Caesar Salad
Wednesday - Cube Steak, Roasted Potatoes, Sauteed Purple Cabbage and Onions
Thursday - leftovers
Friday - Stuffed Peppers
Saturday - Eating Out
Sunday  - leftovers from Friday

My breakfast this week is hard boiled eggs with homemade Everything Seasoning & lunch is Willow Tree Chicken Salad.

What are y'all doing for dinner this week?

Friday Five

January 26, 2018

Product received from Montiel were complimentary in return for a review with Lafayette Moms Blog.

It's Friday and let's kick off the weekend with an awesome active wear deal!

I got this awesome tear drop sports bra from Montiel in the mail yesterday and immediately fell in love. All my usual complaints about a sports bra were out of the window. No strap pain. No band rolling. It's a little slice of heaven.

So with that... Lafayette Moms Blog got us a discount code to share. Use LOUISIANAMOM at checkout for 20% off your purchase.

I know I will be using it very soon to snag another one of these!

Meal Plans, Ice Days, and Life

January 23, 2018

I'm behind. It's Tuesday and I have yet to post our menu. I skipped Friday's post.

Honestly I think I could use a nap right now.

There's just nothing like a week off for ice. I love nothing more than being trapped inside for days with the chance to not drive farther than the sitter's house in our own neighborhood.

Yes, yes we did take Harrison to the sitter last week during the ice storm. I look at it this way though 1) he has people to play with instead of just looking at us all week and 2) it gave us a chance to chill out on Jeremy's last week before seminary classes started back up.

It was glorious.

We watched Friend's all week. Drank espresso, which translates into experimenting with with coffee recipes. I personally want to get the Pioneer Woman Coffee Subscription, but that's a ridiculous budget line to add.

I didn't even take that many photos.

Except at a friend's child's birthday party and when I ventured out for the Lafayette Moms Blog night at Board and Brush in Youngsville... but I'll post about that on it's own later.

Y'all it was just glorious being stuck inside.

In other news... I'll share our meal plan for this week.

Monday - Breakfast Burritos (low carb whole wheat tortillas, eggs, bacon, cheese, spinach)
Tuesday - Chicken with Roasted Broccoli
Wednesday - Enchiladas - Gracious Pantry is my favorite enchilada sauce recipe on earth.
Thursday - leftovers
Friday - Balsamic Roast with Green Beans
Saturday - eating out
Sunday - leftover roast

Yeah, skipping Pinterest this time. Their widgets have been making me bonkers lately. I can't just type anymore, you have to do it in html mode and that's a royal pain.

In other news I'll be back later this week with a review of our experience at Board and Brush!

Favorite Products of 2017

January 17, 2018

I know this thing says Top 8 and Favorite... but hear me out... these are just the top 8 of what I loved from the past year. It's what get's the most use.

So click the links to find the products, and rest assured they are just links... no rStyle or affiliate. Just products I've loved.

1. Top of the year is definitely the It Illumination CC. I tried their regular one this last time and as soon as it runs out I'm back to this one. Great coverage and makes you look amazing without looking like makeup.

2. Collagen Peptides. I think I started using them in 2016, but I've been pretty consistent the latter half of 2017. I don't love it just for the gut benefits, but it makes my hair and nail grow quicker and my skin looks better. Side note: the photo is of the wrong brand... oops... but I linked to what I've been using.

3. The holy grail of mascara... Urban Decay Perversion. Don't let people lie to you. Other mascara does not compare, although a great dupe is the Full 'n Soft mascara by Maybelline.

4. I ran out of my beloved Anastasia of Beverly Hills Brow Wiz a month ago and had to buy what I could find in town. The Wunder2 brow pencil did not disappoint.

5. Teddie Organics Rose Hip is the best thing to ever exist. How moisturized my face feels is drastic with and without this oil. I skipped one day and felt dry and tight all day. It's taken how moisturized my skin looks to a new level, no more dry dull skin.

6. Milk Piggy is basically heaven. I bought their Hell Pore and the gold mask this year and love them both. Just don't put the Hell Pore all over your face or expect to cry a lot when you peel it off. Nose and chin only people, nose and chin only.

7. Last year I dipped into the Naked Palette pool and this year it was all in. I'm still using my small basics palette every day for work but also got the Naked3 and for Christmas my mother got me the Smokey Palette. I'll never use another eye shadow.

8. I love the Big Boo Podcast and my mother reads both of their blogs, Big Mama and Boo Mama. Needless to say Big Mama raved about this and I wasn't mad that they were a Christmas present. Gap was on point with pajama pants this year. They are the softest leggings every.

It's not a big Pinterest pinned week, but there are meal ideas none the less.

Friday Four...

January 12, 2018

Considering it's been a social media free week, per a big church study kicking off/fast... I haven't taken any photos.

Whomp Whomp.

Basically if I can't post them I find I don't take them. But alas, I've still been alive and this is what's been happening.

Favorite Books from 2017

January 10, 2018

I'm doing my best to remember this one because the library system changed how it was saving what I read... well I lost my record and am going off of what I can remember.

These are just a, but a few of my favorites from the year.

I also read all of the Against All Grain cookbooks as well as the new Pioneer Woman Dinnertime cookbook and loved them all.

First up, the newest Robb Wolf book from 2017, Wired to Eat.

I was already delving into Keto a bit when it was released but this really had me go full force. It's changed how I feel and I really love his take on nutrition. He's a Paleo person I've really trusted.

Meal Pinning Monday

January 8, 2018

It's back to work and reality today. The break was really nice while it lasted, but let's be honest my waistline will appreciate being back at work.

As long as no one buys a king cake.

Oh and in case you forgot, this week I'm cooking from the Pioneer Woman Dinnertime cookbook. Page numbers are by the recipes incase you don't want to deal with Pinterest. I also added how I'm lowing the carb count for myself in each recipe.

2017 In Review

January 5, 2018

As per every single year, here's a recap of what we were up to in 2017.

January

We had a massive (South Louisiana scale) freeze, everything in the garden died except the carrots. Turns out Christmas lights will not save you from freezing temps mixed with rain.

2018 Resolutions

January 1, 2018

I'm a sucker for resolutions.

There have been very few years that I didn't post my yearly resolutions at this space. Tomorrow... or today if you're reading this... I get to do my favorite thing, open a clean planner and start fresh.

So what are my plans for the new year?

1. Take 30 minutes to work out at least 5 days a week.

This has been a rough one for me. For starters as soon as I was getting in my mama groove I changed grade levels and consequently changed my afternoon energy level.

I think I've gotten back on top of that. So I want to take time to workout in some capacity this year, I started doing this in January 2017, but I'm just continuing it. You could basically call this the year of muscle building. Last year I was easing back in, this year I'm easing the weights back in.

2. More white space.

I'm guilty when it comes to saying yes when I don't mean it. This year, I am saying no.

No I'm not doing whatever, I'd rather hang out with my kid and husband. We are only alive for so long and babies don't keep, so I'm pulling back and not feeling guilty about it.

I kinda sorta started this at the end of 2017, but I'm keeping it rolling.

3. Figure out how to bible journal on my own.

No, I'm not getting a bible you write in and coloring it all up. I don't have time for that.

What I'd like to do is learn to study on my own, or at least feel confident in doing so. I'm such a study follower, I like things written out for me. This year I'd like to take advantage (more so than I've been doing) of my husband's Logos software he uses for seminary and study more in depth on my own without the aid of a premade study.

4. Aquire a tea set.

This might sound strange. I get it. You could basically say I collect server ware at this point.

I have this image in my head of drinking coffee or tea with a cute little set that matches. Not coffee mugs. Tea cups. Saucers. A two tier tray for cookies. Maybe a doilie.

Jeremy and I already like to sit and drink coffee or tea together, and going into ministry this could be an easy hospitality thing.  It would be easy to break out the set for coffee or tea if someone came by and would be much more special than just my plain white Target mugs.

I have visions of Blue Arden pattern cups in my head.

This is half Jeremy and Emily at home date idea and half making people who come over feel like their coffee is special.

Four is a good number right? Half of 8. 2018.

You get it.
